The Don’ts of Presentation Preparation

plan-practice-prepare-3-arrow-wheel-15289139When it comes to presenting well, it’s not about how much you’ve prepared for your presentation but how correctly you did your preparations for it.

Below are errors presenters make when preparing for presentations. Beware and try not to do any of these things:

  1. Not having the right intention: Have clear goal and objective for your speech.
  2. Not preparing your content before you prepare your PowerPoint™: Prepare your content first which will serve as your blueprint to be followed by the visuals.
  3. Not realizing that your content has two parts—message and structure: Build your content and then make sure that it follows a certain structure when you tell it to your audience.
  4. Not practicing your delivery ahead of time: Remember that even the best speakers practice their presentation out loud at least 3 times before every presentation they give.
  5. Not showing physical excitement and passion: It’s not enough that you know all the details of your topic. you should be able to show passion and excitement when conveying your message as well.
  6. Not letting your voice be free: Make your voice work for you by using it to elicit various emotions from your audience.
  7. Not showing confidence and energy: Even if you don’t feel energetic at first, you should be able to fake it until you make it.
